Choosing the right solicitor for your mortgage transaction can make all the difference for a speedy and uncomplicated purchase or re-mortgage.

Westexe have been involved in numerous mortgage transactions for over 40 years and we have experienced good and bad solicitors during this time. Our clients have dealt with large and smaller firms during this time. It is part of our comprehensive service to get involved in smoothing our clients mortgages through by being in contact with the solicitors and we have experienced massive differences between their willingness to talk to us and their abilities in helping our clients to understand the process and to treat them compassionately.

Buying a property or re-mortgaging a property can be a very traumatic experience, especially for those who are buying their first property and do not have any experience of this process, so choosing the right solicitor is vital. We find some smaller firms will normally offer a very hands on service helping in a very compassionate way, likewise some larger firms seem to be better set up to look after the customer during the process.

Many people will use a firm they already know or a firm recommended to them by family or friends. It is important to talk to and to feel confident in the firm of solicitors that you may intend to use before making a decision and to remember the cheapest may not necessarily be the best. It may be necessary to talk to two or three firms before making that decision, at the very least I would suggest you talk directly to the person who will be responsible for dealing with your transaction.

Recommendation or previous contact as I have said is normally the right choice as you should know that they are competent and that they have your best interest at heart. Ask them how they are set up to deal with mortgage conveyancing (the legal process involved with mortgages), and whether or not an individual will be responsible from start to finish and make sure to talk that person to start to build a relationship. Make sure that they explain the process to you in a way that you understand and that they will always be available to take your calls. Finally, if you are still unsure check the solicitors customer reviews as this is always a good sign of how they treat their customers and how good they really are.
